Every price and limit comes from each tool's own pricing page on . Prices are in USD before tax and change often, so check the tool's site before you buy.

The tools in detail

They're in order from the simplest to the most involved, not from best to worst.

TryTestimonials

Best for: written testimonials on your own website, with the least setup. A deliberately small tool: send customers one link, approve what comes back in an inbox, and paste two lines into your site. It only does written testimonials, with an optional star rating.

What it does well

  • The free plan has no cap on how many testimonials you collect. Your site shows your 5 newest approved, and Pro shows them all.
  • Customers fill in three short prompts on their phone, with no account, camera or app.
  • Every testimonial waits in an inbox until you approve, edit or reject it.
  • The widget is one script under 5 KB. It sets no cookies and loads no web fonts, images or iframes.
  • Step-by-step guides for WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, Webflow, Framer, Carrd and Astro.

Limitations

  • No video or audio testimonials, by design.
  • No imports from review sites. You add existing testimonials by hand (up to 5 on Free).
  • No integrations such as Zapier, and one login per account.
  • Free has 1 wall in a grid layout with a small “Powered by” link. Pro has 3 walls and removes the link.

Pricing: free plan: No limit on how many you collect. Your 5 newest approved are shown on your site. Cheapest paid plan: $19/month (Pro), or $79 once (Lifetime, first 30 buyers).

Widget, in our test on 21 October 2026: cookies: None, so it adds nothing to your cookie banner. Fonts and iframes: None. One small script (under 5 KB) that uses fonts already on the visitor's device and draws straight into your page.

Choose TryTestimonials if you run a small business, coaching practice or freelance service and want a handful of strong written quotes on your site without learning a marketing tool. If you want video, pick one of the others.

  • Standard allows 6 video and 6 audio testimonials. Unlimited video starts at Professional, $25 a month.
  • Removing Famewall branding entirely is listed on the Agency plan, $125 a month.

Pricing: free plan: 10 testimonials. 1 video and 1 audio testimonial. Cheapest paid plan: $12/month (Standard), or $149 billed yearly.

How to choose testimonial software

Written or video?

Video feels more personal, but it asks more of your customer: a quiet moment, a camera and the nerve to film themselves. Fewer people say yes. Written testimonials take a minute on a phone, and visitors can skim three of them in the time it takes to press play on one video. If you're a small business with a handful of happy customers, start with written quotes. If you have a marketing team and want testimonials for ads, a video tool earns its price.

Review management or a testimonial widget?

“Customer review tools” often means something different: software that monitors your Google, Facebook or Trustpilot reviews, asks for new ones and helps you reply. That's reputation management, and none of the seven tools here is built mainly for it. Testimonial software collects quotes for you to show on your own site, where you choose which ones appear. Plenty of businesses use both.

Free or paid?

Six of the seven have a free plan, but they limit different things. Most cap how many testimonials you can hold, and on some, new ones are hidden once you hit the cap. Look for what happens when you outgrow the free plan, not just what it includes on day one.

What the widget adds to your page

A widget runs on every page you put it on. Some load web fonts, several requests to other domains, or an iframe, and video thumbnails add more. That can slow your pages and, if it sets cookies, may need a mention in your cookie banner. Our test results are in each tool's section above. To test any widget yourself, put it on a blank page and run that page through PageSpeed Insights.

Questions

Is there free testimonial software?

Yes. TryTestimonials, Famewall, Shapo, Senja, Testimonial.to and Vocal Video all have free plans. Boast has a 14-day trial instead. The free plans differ most in how many testimonials they hold and whether video is included, so check the table above.

What's the difference between testimonials and reviews?

A review is usually public, on a site you don't control, such as Google or Trustpilot, and you can't pick which ones appear. A testimonial is a quote a customer gives you permission to use, which you show on your own site. Testimonial software is for the second.

Can I move my testimonials from one tool to another?

Usually, but not automatically. Some tools import from review sites, and most let you export your testimonials. TryTestimonials has no import: you add the ones you already have by hand, up to 5 on the free plan and as many as you like on Pro.

How did you choose these seven?

They're the testimonial tools small businesses most often compare, plus two video specialists, so the video-first option is fairly represented. We left out review-management platforms, which do a different job.

Is anything here out of date?

Prices change. If you spot something wrong, email george@trytestimonials.com and we'll correct it.
